Sacrificial Systems in Leviticus

Jan 23, 2022 | by Mike Wilson

The Old Testament priests, sacrifices and tabernacle are so remote to our religious experience that we feel little need for or profit from a study of Leviticus. We do not seem to understand that much of the New Testament cannot be properly understood until the Old Testament is fully understood. Therefore, we are prejudiced against the study of Leviticus.

Leviticus cannot be studied as you do other textual books of the Bible (verse by verse), it must be studied topically. In this study, we will be looking at the sacrifices as presented in the book of Leviticus. We will study each sacrifice in regard to what animal was demanded, the ritual that is commanded, the primary purpose of the sacrifice (usually indicated by where the blood is applied), and how each sacrifice represents Christ and what, if any, significance each sacrifice has for the modem-day Christian.
