And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." (Acts 2:47)

God adds baptized believers to the church, people who are in Jesus Christ and have been called out of the world to be salt and light by the power of the Holy Spirit.  "Placing membership" with a local church lets that group know that you want to be a part of the work and worship that is happening at that place.  It also gives the shepherds of that church the chance to help you mature in Christ.  It is an important part of your growth as a disciple of Jesus.
