Disparity between Knowing and Doing
He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the LORD.
(2 Chronicles 12:14)
"Solomon showed his love for the LORD by walking according to the instructions given him by his father David, except that ..." (1 Kings 3:3). Solomon had a genuine desire to please the Lord, but the "except thats" kept tripping him up. It is one thing to have discernment and know what God wants, and quite another to live it. It is what one lives, not what one says, that defines a person's life.
