God Responds to Pain and Suffering
The fear of the Lord – that is wisdom. (Job 28:28)
Set in the period of the patriarchs, the book of Job tells the story of a righteous man who loses everything – his wealth, his family, and his health – and wrestles with the question, "Why?" It is a question that has challenged the foundation of Job's faith and led him to question his very concept of God.
We can identify with his struggle, can't we? We, too, struggle with "Why?" and making sense of who God is in the middle of the "Why?" In the search for answers, we may be challenged to admit, just as Job was, that perhaps the idea we have of God may not be God at all.
