God Works with a Stubborn People
How long will these people treat me with contempt? How long will they refuse to believe in me, in spite of all the signs I have performed among them? (Numbers 4:11)
Israel had everything! They had a uniquely special relationship with God. They had been delivered from Egypt through the power of God's might. They had been given laws, a tabernacle, and a system of worship that allowed them to approach God and relate with Him. Above all, they had the tangible presence of God among them. They had everything they needed for complete success.
Now it was time for them to take possession of a new land, a land flowing with milk and honey. What could possibly go wrong? Quite a bit, it turns out. But everything that went wrong did so because of Israel's struggle with obedience and responsibility as a holy people. With blessing comes responsibility. Choices must be made.
